I know this has probably been covered before but I would just like some input and opinions. I’m looking to get a new scope on one of my LR rifles.. What are the thoughts and opinions on the Burris XTR 2 vs Viper gen 2? Thank you in advance.

What did you like about the viper more? I would love to throw another nightforce on it but I’m going to wait until I can get the ATACR one day..

I am more of a fan of the viper gen 2 as well. I have the 3-15 and it has been a great performer. The turrets are nice for the price and the glass is also great when compared to other scopes of a similar price range. A lot of guys around here rave about the Athlon scooes butni have no experience with them.

I looked those athlon scopes up, looked like they are mainly set up in MIL’s. I’m used to MOA but I also didn’t look very had at them either.. I can pick up the XTR 2 from a friend for $800 or just spend the couple extra hundred and get a gen 2. That’s my Hang-up. If it’s better to get the gen 2 I will definitely stick it out though.

I have both of the optics listed and if I had to buy one, due to money constraints, I would buy the Viper Gen II. The glass is just clearer and more crisp on the Vortex. I like the Burris, and I have two of them, but in the end of the day, the Vortex wins. Now when the Gen III Burris comes out that may change accordingly. And, that is why competition is so great in America; it always brings innovation.

I debated between these two and the Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50. I ended up taking a gamble on the Athlon and have been pleased with it. Scope seems clear and tracks well. I've had it to 600 yards and hoping to stretch the legs a little further soon.

Damn I think I tossed that flyer. Is there a model # on the flyer? I might have to give them a call.

I did some searching. Seems like those Vortex PST II models that are on sale at $675 are made for exclusively for MidwayUSA.

The ones on sale are
PST-3154 which is MOA

PST-3157 which is MIL

I have had both of the scopes mentioned. Comparable glass, slightly more travel in the XTR 2. Tracks excellent. I sold the Burris (which I liked a lot) to purchase the Gen 2 Viper due to the eye box. On max power, Vortex seems to be easier to get behind TO MY EYES. YMMV. Also, it had the same reticle as my comp rifle which is a plus.

I was more interested in the 5-25 for 750. Although I may pick up a 3-15 at these prices.

I prefer my viper PST 2 gen 2 over my xtrII as well. The glass seems brighter and higher resolution to me. Both of them have decent turrets.

Since I have used both in the same situations, Left in the back of a car for a summer bounced around and groundhog hunted with, and the viper pst 2 failed, I would personally stick with the Burris.
