Hi all,
I am in the market for a new scope, and I think I have my options narrowed down to the Burris XTR II 3-15 or the Vortex Viper PST 4-16. I started out by looking for a MIL/MIL scope in the $800-1100 range with FFP illuminated reticle, and these two seemed to fit the bill pretty well. I have not read very many first hand reports about the Burris, although I have found enough reports/posts complaining about the Viper's lack of clarity at higher magnifications and canted reticles that I am slightly wary. I really want the scope to be as rugged and reliable as possible, but I can't afford NF/USO.

Another contender for me was the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12, but the lack of illumination in the model with the G2DMR reticle was a bit of a turnoff. I found the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12 with illuminated mil-dot reticle, and that seemed pretty nice except that I'd prefer a reticle with half-Mil subtensions, like the Burris or Vortex.

Which would you guys prefer and why?
I've been going slightly crazy over this decision and would greatly appreciate any input you can give me.

Thanks,
Nick

Usually illumination is something you want but rarely use. Not saying you don't need it, but make sure it's something you are gonna use and not just a feature you want. I have two scopes with illumination and rarely use it on either. I vote for the DMR with the G2 reticle. The Burris look promising but haven't been out long enough to get my recommendation, although I am interested in purchasing one once they release a better reticle than the current selection and they get into a few more hands.

I just got a PST 6-24 and like it alot so far. I considered the XTRii 5-25 quite a bit. The $250 price difference along with the fact I already own 30mm rings made the decision a little easier for me.

Same here. I like my Bushnell Elite FFP G2DMR 3.5-21X50 scopes much better the my VV PST FFP 4-16X50 Scopes.

weaver 3-15 edmr would fit the bill. mine is out for warrenty repair right now. i have the bushnell 3.5-21 with tremor2 i really like it is not illuminated though. the 34mm tube is huge. if you do not need lots of adjustment i would go with a 30mm tube. all the scopes in that price range are pretty nice. you will be happy with whatever you choose. just get the features you want

The Bushnell Elite Tacitcal (ET3124FJ) is a 3-12x44 with illumination and half-Mil subtensions (reticle called BTR MIL). I have never looked at any of these scopes in real life, but this is the scope I want.

A thread with pics and shows the illum bleed. Hopefully not an issue for me, seen some pics where there is no bleed.
