I'm buying a Savage model 10 predator hunter in .243win and considering a Burris xtr 3-12x50mm illum reticle. This rifle will primarily be used for antelope and coyote hunting with most shots being under 450yds. I hunt yotes by moonlight whenever I can thus the illum reticle. Any feedback on this scope? I've owned 7 different fullfield models (I know they're cheap but they get the job done) and was looking to step up in quality. Any insight will be helpful. Please don't tell me to buy a leupold I'm really not impressed for the $ spent. Thanks

Re: Burris XTR

I have used the XTR 1-4x and am highly impressed with the quality. I have yet to handle their other scopes. I think the Vortex line has some nice scopes worth looking at. I also agree that Leupold for the money is a waste.

Re: Burris XTR

Alot of people are turning away from leupold nowadays, they make high quality stuff, but somewhere along the way they jacked there prices sky high and its still the same old scope, but the Burris scopes are pretty nice and you might also take a good look at the Vortex Viper PST's, they have alot to offer for a good price.

Re: Burris XTR

My father has an XTR atop his AR. He seems to like it, glass is good and the turrets have positive clicks. Illumination is good too. On the down side they seem to be a bit heavy and they only offer Mil/Moa.

Re: Burris XTR

My XTR kicks ass and the glass is friggin great!!!! Tracks very well Shot a 6" 5 shot group last time out at 600 with Sierra 69gr MK's. I would get another one if I weren't Jonesing for a Schmidt and Bender.

Re: Burris XTR

I have 2 XTRs. They are pretty decent scopes for the money. I would say that they are at the upper end of the mid range scopes.
My next one will probably be a nightforce though. Big money but I don't hear anyone talking bad about them.

Re: Burris XTR

I can't say enough good things about Burris. I broke the illumination knob on the 3x12 XTR and they replaced it for free and within 3 weeks Of sending it, I had it back! All my fault too. Plus they're made in the USA.

You haven't done a lot of reading here have you.

Re: Burris XTR

No, but I'm liking what I've read so far. Sounds like the XTR is well liked by everyone who's shot one. Burris makes one hell of a scope, now I've just gotta figure out how to buy it without my wife finding out about it. I need a covert UPS guy!

I have the cell number to my UPS driver and sometimes meet him in town at the post office.

+1 on at least looking at the Vortex PST also.

Re: Burris XTR

I checked it out and liked it but unless I can find something of the same quality for considerably less I'll probably stick with Burris. They've never failed me yet and I've put them through the wringer. Nikon is another favorite but not made in USA and I havent found one with illuminated reticle
