Not sure if this is the right place or not but I've got a Bushmaster ACR and I'm interested in having it SBR registered. Does anyone know of a gunsmith who can chop down, recrown and thread a barrel properly. I really need the barrel before I do the paperwork so that I can put the dimensions down. If not someone who can cut it down, someone who can manufacture an SBR barrel.

There was a thread a while back where a member used an AR barrel and barrel nut. Not sure if it was sbr or not but that is one route you could go instead of cutting your barrel. If I remember correctly he said it improved his accuracy getting rid of the quick change barrel system.

Unless you get a factory 10.5" barrel & gas system to swap in, you'll be limited to about a 13.5" bbl due to the mid-length gas system of the factory 16" bbl. You won't be ditching the quick change system either way & you'll have to re-use some of it anyway, if you don't get a whole other assembly from Bushmaster. Just get a quality aftermarket barrel with a mid-length gas system that's chrome lined & have it fitted by a competent gunsmith(the spacing is different on the pins that hold the gas block on). You'll also have to turn down a small recess behind the gas block for the push rod/piston guide to bolt to.
