Bought 2 of these a few years back. Both have the crazy zero stop setup. What’s the overall opinion on these scopes today? Did I screw up?

Did you screw up? Not unless you paid too much for them. I had two of these at one point as my primary scopes and the glass was always fairly decent and they've always tracked well for me. I did have an issue with a turret that froze up but Bushnell took care of that issue right away and they've been solid otherwise. The zero stop setup is rather funky but not terribly difficult once you figure it out. The lift to turn feature of the turret is also a PIA in my opinion but I think they'll be reliable scopes for you.

The XRS1 is still a solid optic, it's just been surpassed in the years since it came out. I upgraded from a first gen XRS to the XRS2 (and another XRS2... then a DMR2 Pro... I have a problem...) and have been quite happy with the upgrade.

For the zero stop, the instructions in the manual are ....lacking. Try this instead.

Thank you for you replies! Why am I asking about the XRS after two years of ownership. I purchased the first one almost two years ago. No complaints. It was on a 6.5cm. Purchased the 2nd about 6 months ago mounted it on a 308 THEN tried to set the zero stop. Pain in the ass! Never needed it before. Hence the question. Wanted the opinion of more experienced shooters. That help?

Best advice I can give is to follow the instructions I posted earlier, and set your zero stop ~1 mil under your actual zero - then never screw with the stop again.
