So I finally took my new Bushnell 4200 3-12x (FFP and .1 mil) scope to the range to sight it in. Windage was spot on right out of the box and elevation was Exactly 1.5 mils low. Dialed up 1.5 and was smack on the bulls eye. Shot a couple more rounds just to verify and was satisfied - Quickest zero I have EVER accomplished, it was awesome. Didn't get a chance to box test it before the wind kicked up, but I dialed up for the 570 yard target and shot 10 or so rounds at it and I was exactly on bullseye when I came back down to my 100 yard zero. I'll do a proper box test next time out. Turrets did have the somewhat 'mushy' feel that others complain about, but the clicks were still present and easy to use...if that makes any sense.

I did notice that at closer ranges (50 yards), the crosshair felt a little out of focus and was very difficult to see on the black targets. Once I moved out to 100 and beyond, it was much better (does that make sense to you guys?). I did mess with focus to alleviate it, but it only did so much. Maybe it was just me or my tired eyes. Either way, I can't say that I've noticed this with my 6-24 Busnell.

Glass is sufficient for this price range, in my opinion. All the targets at 570 yards resolved just fine and brightness is great. All in all, I'm more than happy with spending $530 on such a scope.

I'm REALLY liking matching turrets. After the wind kicked up (about 15-20mph from the NW), I was a bit off on the smaller 570 yard targets. Mil turrets make adjusting such a painless and idiot proof process.

What retical did that scope have? I heard bushnell is coming out with other tatical reticals? I really like the power range on their scopes, I just wanted something other than mil dot.

I believe scopes are set to function at a certain distance, 50yds is probably inside of that. That is why the cross hairs were a little fuzzy, someone had just made a thread about that problem with a nightforce and that is what was said.

It is a mil dot reticle.

I'm probably going to purchase one of these for an AR, so I'm curious as to the results of the box test when you do it. Please post those results when you have time.

I love the look on your cats face...

Here is a decent review by lowlight on the scope:

trust me these scopes track just fine i have one on 2 of my match rifles, one of which is a semi auto 308 which i just took to the range yesterday to verify zero and it was spot on after twirling the shit out of the knobs in the last match. I have had fantastic luck with the bushnell ffp scopes so far both models.

I think they have been discontinued, or at least re-released with a new name/model.

They have been discontinued, but you can still find them if you look around. And the deal is slammin'!

Re: Bushnell 4200 3-12 w/ mk12 range report.

Since the jury is still out on the Viper PST's, I don't think there is a better scope under $1000. Repeatable, durable, great magnification range, all the bells and whistles (aside from more modern reticles), and the glass is outstanding. I assume it's Japanese glass, as the scope is marked Japan. Even thought I spent $530 on it, I'd have been happy spending $800. Anything more than about $800, I'd likely prefer to go with the 3.5-10 Leupold mk4 on a mil discount...or splurge for the NF 2.5-10. With the Leupold you'd still be giving up 2x magnification and illumination (if thats important).
