Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has compared these 2 scopes in person. I am looking at the Bushnell Elite Tactical 6500 2.5-16x42 and the Burris XTR Tactical 3-12X50. I am also wondering if there would be trouble mounting a 50mm on an Ar-15. I have a burris PEPR mount so that raises it up a bit? If anyone has any experience with either scope, I would love to hear some feedback.

Thanks!

I like the burris XTR. Better eye relief, lighted recticle. I've had both. Glass is about the same in both. TM

I am a big fan of my 5-30x50 6500. I went to cabelas and played with the 2.5-16 6500 and compared it against the burris, leupold mark4, nikon, and something else and ended up ordering the 5-30 over all of them. i am pleased.

4200 glass is good, honestly I can't tell the difference between 4200 and 6500. </div></div>

You have good eyes. It IS the same glass. Main differences between the 4200 & 6500 are the mag ranges & 30mm tube of the 6500 (along with a higher price...).

Compared to the Burris, it thinks its a toss up optically. I'd probably lean toward the Bushnell in this case...

In my opinion you get a lot of scope for the money with the 6500 series. The optics are clear, but to be honest I also had a Burris XTR 3-12x50 and decided to keep the Burris and sell the Bushnell simply because the Burris Glass is clearer. I based this on looking at a tree approximately 200 yards away and at 12x power on the Burris I was able to count the leaves on a branch while at 16x power on the Bushnell I had a much harder time. It also seemed that either the Bushnell was lacking the 16X power or the Burris was actually higher power than 12x because the branches and leaves looked larger in the Burris.

I had a Burris 30mm Euro Diamond 3-12x50 illuminated. I purchased this scope after seeing great recommendations on the clarity and low light performance of the glass. I was not disappointed, it was very clear and crisp and great at night. I believe it uses the same glass as the XTR 3-12 (as do many of the 30mm Burris scopes in that price range) and when looking through the XTR at the store it seemed to be the same. The XTR is also a much larger package then the Euro Diamond. The Euro Diamond glass was also a good step up from the Fullfield II scope I have, and it was noticeably better then the Leupold VXIII that I compared it to.

Unfortunately I had to return the scope due to the elevation knob essentially seizing up before it reached anywhere near full travel. There also appeared to be a small flake of paint inside the scope that would occasionally bounce around and be visible on the reticule. Otherwise I was very pleased with the scope for the price, the glass really was very nice. I could have exchanged it for another one that wasn't defective and been happy, but decided to wait for the Vortex PST line to come out since I like the reticule options (among other things) a bit better.

I haven't compared it directly with the 6500 2.5-16, but nearly purchased that scope instead, I passed because I wanted illumination.

Re: Bushnell Elite 6500 2.6-16 or Burris XTR 3-12

i currently have 2 xtr's and a 6500 (2-16), all on ar15,s
neither is a bad choice but the lower power of the 6500 is
more useful at times on sudden appearing varmints at close
range and the 16x at the top can be useful at extended ranges
i use the xtr more for deer and hogs (in TX) and larger game
6.5, 6.8, and 30whisper---65oo for 17, 204, and 223

I bought a Burris 3-12 XTR about 3 1/2 years ago. It was reliable, consistant, and had pretty good glass for the money. Not a bad optic, not the best obviously.
