Hey guys.
So i've bought myself a Savage FLCP-K, lefty stick in .308, should be arriving next week.

Obviously it needs a scope of some form, and whilst i've been looking at Leupolds and Nightforce scopes, they're twice as much as the rifle, and i dont have that much to spend.

I noticed the Bushnell 4200 Elite 6-24x50mm was right up my alley and certainly my price range. Is this scope any good? And are there any alternatives that fit within the price range?

I plan to mount it on an EGW 20 MOA base and 30mm Rings.
So i dare to ask, is this setup good. Stock will be the standard factory stock until i grab something better down the track.

Cheers for any advice guys.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Double check the elevation adj range in their scopes, as the Elites have a general rep for being limited here. I have another 4200 model on a short range paper puncher, and the view is very, very nice.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Ok, cheers mate. I dont think i'll be using it past 600m, though my rifle will be capable i think that it might take me a while to begin shooting out past that distance with any real accuracy.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

not trying to jack the thread, for about the same cash might want to look through a sightron S3 they have plenty of adjustment/elevation,I think the S3 has a better/sharper sight pic over the bushy

I've got a SFP Bushnell 6-24x50 SF 30mm MD scope and you can figure on 44-46 MOA of total travel, so a 20 MOA rail is a great idea. The FFP scope has a couple/few more MOA, but it's just a few.

Even with this tapered rail, you might still be a tad short out to 1k, if you ever do get out there, but you have holdover, so it's not a big issue. I think that with my 20 MOA Badger, I have about 34-35 MOA of up, so I need to shoot laser beams if I don't want to mess with holdover.

I have mine on a Savage 10FP LE2b and I like it.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Cheers guys.
As much as i like the Viper isnt there a huge wait time on them? Plus getting one down this end wouldnt be as easy as the Bushnell (which they have on the shelf ATM).

The FFP is a nice addition and I will certainly be trying to pick one up with FFP.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

I sure hope you mean they will do it for close to the Elite price which would be an incredible deal for a 6-24x50 PST as opposed to the $1200+ that is listed on that link. You can buy it much cheaper than that direct or around $900 on SWFA.

I own three Bausch & Lomb/Bushnell Elite 4xxx scopes and have their SFP 6-24x50 30mm/SF/MilDot on a Savage 10FP LE2b and I can't complain. I think one needs a good 20 MOA rail, as the scopes at UP shy.

Glass is fairly clear on my scope, clicks are positive and it returns to zero. It's a $600 scope that is a good value to a shooter looking for a 30mm, SF Mildot scope of higher magnification.

Their new FFP 6-24x50, with an illuminated Mildot is pretty nice and a good choice for those not wanting to drop $2,000-$3,500 on a scope, but still want to get most of the features without breaking the bank.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

I have two and love them. I have one on a 243 WSSM and one on my AR-15 .223(I use the .223 all the time). The mil dots work great. I am looking at getting rid of my .243 WSSM due to the expense of the ammo. I would make you a deal on one of my Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24. Let me know if your interested. The scope is to much zoom for my 300WSM.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

You might look at a Vortex viper instead. I've had a couple Bushnell elites and a Viper 6-24x50 and the Viper is a better value and better scope in my opinion.

Nothing wrong with the Bushnells, the ones I've had worked fine and the knobs are nice. Bushnell's CS is somewhat hit and miss though if you have a problem.

That site is listing price in Aus dollars, not US dollars.

ahh Thanx. Better but that still makes it $1100, doesn't it? Still sounds like it would be cheaper to just buy direct or at SWFA.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

I do like the Bushnell. Illuminated Reticule would be handy if i took it night hunting. But then again i'd say those times would be few and far between and therefore not a necicearry feature.
http://www.nvt.com.au/p/1066639/bushnell...de-426245f.html

The PST has the advantage of FFP, a feature i'm almost concrete on having. As far as i know the Bushnell does not have this. Plus the Viper has the option of MRAD.
http://www.extravision.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=16&products_id=1657

Which brings me to ask, MRAD or Mil/Dot.
Remembering australia is Metric, so metres/kilometres rather than yards and miles. However shooting still works in Feet/Second for velocities and we do use MOA.
But i'm not sure wether i'd be best getting a Mil Dot or MRAD reticule. I'm leaning towards MRAD.

And yeah, Prices in AUD guys. So a little higher over here than you lucky americans.

Hey Remoah,
You dont have to buy a scope in Aus. You will be able to buy most scopes direct from the States and save some money. There are a few really good vendors on here that will help you out and ship internationally.

"MRAD or Mil/Dot"? Did you mean mil/Mrad or MOA?
Alot of metric scopes use 0.1 Mrad adjustments and have mil dot reticles or a variation to this like the "MLR" reticle Nightforce uses. Vortex has the "EBR-1 MRAD Reticle" with 0.1 Mrad Adjustments, both are mil/mil scopes. There is alot of information on here about this to try and wrap you head around..lol.

Anyhow, thought this might give you something else to think about. Pretty tired at the moment so if i explained something wrong, sorry..haha

Have a good one.

Pete

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Hmm cheers mate.
I'm just wanting to make sure that the click adjustments will match up which is kinda hard for me to figure out. Optics confuse me, which is probably not surprising since i failed light-ray physics last year :p

As for sourcing from the US. By the time I pay postage, handling and duty i may as well get it from these guys and at least be able to return it if there's a f*** up.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

No worries mate,
Just the heads up on the Vortex if your in a hurry to buy. Make sure you email "extravision" first, because alot of the boys in the States are still waiting on the PST's to turn up as far as i know, so i dout they will have any in stock yet in Aus, but yeh just email them.

If you go with the PST i would get the FFP EBR1-MRAD scope. So then you have a Mil/mil scope in front focal plane.

Thats just my opinion tho, alot of people still like MOA scopes too.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Ah cheers mate.
I'll probably give them a bell sometime tomorrow or the next day. I am aware of the wait, but i'm planning to stick a Manners or even mcMillan stock on this baby in the future. So it'll 'prepare' me for a long wait :p

Cheers though, i was thinking MRAD, just seemed alot simpler.

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Remoah,
Bushnell does make a FFP scope very comparable to the PST.
http://www.libertyoptics.com/index1.html
Then select Bushnell Elite> then 4200> scroll to the bottom of the screen.
Don't rely on Bushnells website, their info is very inaccurate.

Using a 20 moa base and the 48moa total travel in the Bushnell you'll be able to shoot well beyond 600yds and still retain a 100yd zero.

Cheers mate!

Re: Bushnell Elite Scopes?

Looks like the PST wont be in until October. Which is too late for me.
FFP Bushnell is about what i'm after. Dont mind if the reticule isnt in MRAD, i'll survive with it.

Cheers for all the help guys.
