Hi guys,

Just a quick question on optics. Which scope would most of you prefer out of these two: Vortex Viper PST or Bushnell Elite Tactical 6500? Looking at purchasing one of the two but can't make a decision. Thanks!

TonyAngel, can you elaborate as to why you chose the PST? I am in the same boat trying to make a decision between the two. Most likely I will never shoot past 500 yds. But I hate sending money twice. Thanks in advance!!

I believe all the 6500 series are second focal plane so I'd have to go FFP PST. If you look at the 4200 series Bushnells you can get a FFP. In that case, either is fine and it comes down to personal preference mostly. I own both, btw.

I agree, I caved and went bushnell not wanting to wait for the pst to come out now im kicking myself as a buddy has one. ( insert Homer Simpson )

Optic quality aside, the warranty and customer service alone should be the deciding factor. I won't get into SFP vs. FFP, but an unconditional lifetime warranty, regardless of fault, is hard to beat. I'd say you'd be happy with either, but I love my pst and the piece of mind the warranty brings...should I ever need it.

Re: Bushnell Elite Tactical 6500 or Vortex Viper PST

This weekend I compared my buddies Viper PST 2.5-10x44 to my Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50 mil-dot on a sunny afternoon. At 2.5x both offered a clear, sharp and bright image with a good field of view. Comparing them both at 10x I felt that the 6500 had an edge in terms of image clarity and sharpness. At 10x the PST seemed more sensitive to eye relief and side-to-side head position as well. Now this is obviously not an apples to apples comparison due to the PST being 44mm and the 6500 being 50mm, but it's what I noticed when comparing the two.

On the plus side the PST was a much more compact package than the 6500, I liked the reticule better, and it was illuminated. Overall the fit/finish on the PST seemed great, and the knobs felt great as well. I liked the PST very much and will probably pick one up for a different rifle that currently wears a cheaper Burris 3-9x40. As expected the PST was clearer and brighter than that Burris.
