I have a rem sps in a .308 leupold 20 moa base and rings shooting federal match 168 gr (thinking about to switching to 175gr.Will be reloading in future ,no funds for equipment right now. Bushnell 4200 ffp 3x12. I zeroed at 100 yrds.I counted the elevation clicks. There's 170 up clicks. What would that equate to in yrds .How far can I get with that?

Re: Bushnell scope

The bushnell 42 3-12x44mm has around 80" (22 Mils) of adjustment. 40" (11 mils) up and 40" (11 Mils) down. You added a 20 MOA (5.5 Mils) base, so in theory you should have around 60" up (16.5 mils) up and 20" (5.5 mils) down. You counted 170 clicks or 17.0 MILS, because your scope counts in 0.1 Mil clicks.

With FGGM 168 grain loads (MV 2650 FPS) you will need around 12.3 MILS of elevation to reach 1000 yds. With FGGM 175 grain loads (MV 2600) you will need around 11.7 mils. You got 17 MILS of up adjustment......

Actually test in your rifle out to 1K yds is necessary to confirm the real numbers, for your rifle.

Re: Bushnell scope

I think those are 1/8 MOA clicks but not sure. 21.25 if so 41.5 if 1/2 MOA. If 21 MOA is all you have then you will probaly get to about 700-800 yds i would think. I don't shoot the .308 enough to know exactly. Plenty of .308 shooters here to tell you. Or use the JBM calc on the bottom right of the home screen. What does your turrets say? How much of an inch at 100 yds?

Re: Bushnell scope

Thanks for the info.No where to shoot past 200yrds till I visit my parents out in Prescott.Trying to figure things out before the visit in Sept. Thanks again

Re: Bushnell scope

170 up adjustments translates to 42.5 MOA @ 100yds. Which at 1k is 425MOA. FGMM 168 drops 261.7 inches @ 1k, 175gr drops 243.1. If the pros could check my math, I think your scope is capable.

Wow those are some numbers.

Well you would be correct if 170 up clicks were .25 MOA, but they are 0.1 Mil clicks, at least in that scope model.

And FGGM 308 Winchester 168's drop around 454.2" and 175's drop around 408.8" both at 1K yds, from a 100 yd zero at sea level. But perhaps there is less gravity in NV, and certainly more altitude, so your drops could be right....

Re: Bushnell scope

I tried to get the ballistics from Federals site, but they only went to 500yds. Got my info off of snipercentral. So much for a good source of info. I missed the part saying its mils.

A 42.5 MOA (minute of angle) change at 100 yards would translate to same 42.5 MOA change at 1000 yards, however, the distance changed at a 1000 yards would be ten times as great as at 100 yards (i.e. ~44.5" vs ~445" at 1000 yards). Which is what I assumed you were typing while looking up the exact details of drop for the various loadings.

Would check out JBM Ballistics
