Can somone explain to me the proper use of a butt hook? I have a general idea but wasn't sure if there was a proper way to grip it or? Sorry for my newb question, everyone that I shoot with are Benchrest guys so knowone has a hook or knows anything about one. My gun is a remington 700 xcr tactical long range in 308, so it has the b&c tactical stock with the butt hook. Thanks in advance.

b&c stocks are not worthy of the hook design that they copied from a real stock maker......
you would be best served by junking that pos and revisit the question on how to properly use the tool you bought.

I didn't ask what you thought of my equipment, I asked a question trying to learn the PROPER use of it*, it* being a butt hook in general.

Put your shooting bag between your hand and the butt hook. Apply pressure to the bag to keep the recoil pad in contact with your shoulder and squeeze the bad as necessary to adjust for elevation.
