Because if you run a top-loader, it's a hell of a lot quicker to single-load from loops on the stock than from your pockets, pack or upturned boonie. That was a lesson from the "good ole days" before we had a pile of magazine systems to choose from.
The Triad Tactical Stock Pack is a great option:

The triad looks great, but they don't have an ammo card for .223 do they? I cannot find one on their website.

I don't recall Stu making .223 ammo cards for the AICS mount/carrier a regularly stocked item. You probably ought to get in touch with Stu through Red Tac Gear and see if the .223 is still an option...or get with Steve at Triad and see what he can do for you...either way.

If this is for being able to reload faster, I have been trying a cheapo elastic buttstock shell-holder on my rear support arm. I read about this in Chris Kyle's book and decided to give it a try. Doing this as I dont have DBM except on 1 rifle, it is cheaper, and less bulky. Something to try if you want fast reloads and want more ammo than just the buttstock pouch can hold. I still run stock packs on my rifles too.
Once I mess with it more, I hope to make my own design and make a couple of my own.

I have the Triad on my 300RUM sitting in an A-3 sniper fill stock and think the quality is A-1
