Okay, I know this is probably a stupid question but here it goes because I need the answer.

I am in possession of a rifle worthy of custom dies, HOWEVER, in order to get redding custom dies I need 3 fired brass. So, do I only order the new Lapua brass and a Bullet seater and I am good? Or do I need to buy a cheepo RCBS die to size the brass so the bullet will hold?

I have never bought new brass before so I am unsure if it comes sized ready to be primed and seated, or if I need to neck it down a tad.

Thanks for any help anyone gives.

I don't FL size my virgin lapua brass. I do check to make sure it meets spec and fits in my case gage. I've only done this with lapua brass as other brass didn't seem to be within spec.

Take this with a pound of salt as I'm a new reloader.

You do not need to size new brass to get it ready to be primed and seated.

All you have to do is order the seater and some lapua brass and you'll be in business.

Can't 100% speak for him but if I was having a custom set of dies made I wouldn't want to have to drop the coin on a set to build 3 rounds.

Reason for asking what round you are using is you might find another hide member that could make some safe loads for you with their dies and just use those three that were fired in your chamber.

If it's a standard caliber why not buy a box of factory ammo? I never buy or trade for a rifle I don't try factory ammo in first to see it's potential.

I've got a guy that will custom hone dies to your rifle. If you want his contact info PM me. He will also make custom die sets. He honed some of my Body dies for me for 40 bucks and though it's a Redding body die it sets the shoulder back .001 and in .001 and .002 at the web. I never have a problem bolting up any brass and does as little sizing as possible for a full length.

Seriously, what Enios said. Just shoot 3 rounds of factory ammo through it, send them the brass. Redding is going to use the brass to measure your chamber dimensions. Doesnt matter what kind of brass or what kind of bullet was fired.
