Helena teen accidentally texts sheriff to buy pot:

HELENA - General rule of thumb: When looking to buy marijuana, don't text the sheriff.
A Helena teen recently sent a text message in search of pot, but instead of contacting the drug dealer, he hit a wrong number and inadvertently sent the message to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.
The text read, "Hey Dawg, do you have a $20 I can buy right now?"
At first, Dutton thought someone was playing a joke on him, but quickly realized otherwise.
"I'm thinking, ‘Hey this is odd,' " Dutton said. "I was looking around to see if there was someone outside my window playing a prank."
He played along as if it were legitimate. "How much we talking?" Dutton replied to the teen.
The sender said he was close to the dealer's house, so Dutton got the Missouri River Drug Task Force involved. A detective pretending to be the dealer agreed to meet the sender at a business on the north end of Helena at 6 p.m. last Wednesday, Dutton said.
Inside the business, the detective spotted two male juveniles with an adult male. To ensure it was the right person, the detective called the number three times, Dutton said.
The detective called the teens over and showed them his badge. Dutton said the young boys turned white and their knees began to wobble. The group went outside to discuss the issue further and one of the teens passed out.
"Was it divine intervention or just bad luck?" Dutton said.
The adult male with the group turned out to be the father of one of the teens. He was a big, military-looking guy and he wasn't happy, Dutton said. The drug detective got both of the teens' parents involved and decided not to issue any citations.
"When the detective saw there were parents that wanted to be involved, he took the right action and I'm really proud of the deputy," Dutton said. "Trying to buy drugs is a crime, but it's probably worse that they had to face their parents."

It bothers me that it seems like the youth in this country seems to be getting dumber each generation. Maybe I just didn’t pay attention to this stuff when I was growing up, but damn.

For everything technology can do to elevate a society, it can also conversely do to bring it down.

These young men learned a valuable lesson about attention to detail.

Well played, good sir, well played.

If the parents were as involved as they needed to be previously, chances are good the boys would not have been texting to buy weed in the first place. But better late than never.

Amen. I am go to do my best to make sure my kids grow up into respectable adults and I plan on doing this by actually being involved in their lives. That’s what my parents did and my brothers and I turned out alright.

people have always been stupid. the difference is that now the internet gives us the ability to witness this stupidity on a never before seen scale.

Re: Buying Marijuana Epic Fail. LOL

The liberal left media monster has been telling our youth for years that Pot is fine, it's fun, it's no big deal. You never see people have consequences from pot use in our media. It is often used in movies as the funny joke etc. No way today's parents, two voices (if the kid is lucky to have two) can compete with today's media. It's easier to get than booze and it's cheap. I am pretty bummed to see it so prevalent in school these days. It's a big reason why I gave up trying to have a third kid.

The other thing that sucks is all the parents out there who don't care their kids smoke. They often let them and their friends over to do it at their house. They all need to be prosecuted.

Re: Buying Marijuana Epic Fail. LOL

Well when you consider that the current President and the 2 last presidents all admitted to using drugs when they were younger, and it seems to be a requirement to have a drug habit if you want to be a famous musician, movie star, celebrity etc., what are you going to say to your kids about drugs being bad? Mmmm Don't do drugs or you might wind up a rockstar, a movie star or the president?
