Caliber change question....

I currently have a 30.06 that's taking up safe space and I had considered selling it. However I was looking around and stumbled onto a some info stating that the 280 AI is a sister cartridge to the '06 and takes the same bolt face, from what I've read.

My question is, is it possible to convert that '06 to a 280 AI by just swapping barrels?

Yup easy barrel swap. The 280ai even has factory formed brass.

280 is based off the 30-06. Both are long action, .470 (+/-) bolt face. Should be good to go.

Now to find someone who makes a 280 AI barrel. I looked at Proof and carbon six, neither showed one. I'll shoot them an e mail as well as LRI.

280 is a 30-06 necked down to 7mm. Ackley improves just makes gives it slightly more volume.

Any cartridge that uses a .473 bolt face can be a straight swap over with a barrel change.
