Sony's been working on that one for quite a while, supposedly an attempt at an alien invasion franchise (ie Battle: New York, Battle: London). There was a huge hiccup when the fucknuts over at Hydraulx were brought in early to help plan out the many hundreds of visual effects shots, forgetting to tell Sony that they were making their own film along a similar vein (remember that turd "Skyline"?). So "Battle" is still scheduled for March I believe but there's a lawsuit going on and a bunch of related nastiness. Will it suck? I couldn't tell you for sure, but my guess is it'll be like "ID4": stupid with unrealistic portrayals of military, but probably popcorn exciting.
Sony bet the farm in a way, with the budget well above $100 million, hence their "WTF, Hydraulx!?" moment.
