Id like to know if anyone has had any luck painting the stock hogue synthetic stock on a Remington 700 SPS? If so what kind of paint/prep work. Thanks

people have done it but i have no idea on prep or how it held up try the search box on the right hand side of the forums under the shout box

Not a good idea painting rubber...especially with the total lack of a rigid skeleton in that stock. Your paint is just going to crack and flake off.
Switch it to a B&C for around $230 and you'll be MUCH happier all around. I know this because I did it myself.

Yeah I do plan on switching the stock eventually. Well I painted it anyway and it sticks alright with a little bit of flaking. But you live and you learn huh?

Here is a Hogue I did last year. I sprayed it with the "tru strip" the degreaser you get with a duracoat kit, but you could just clean it with some dishsoap and water first to get all of the hand oils off first. I use Krylon Fusion and sprayed the base coat, then sponged the others.
The key is to NOT touch the stock with your bare hands for three days. The oil in your hands will make that spot tacky. Dont let the Krylon fool you, it feels dry in 2O minutes. If you need to handle it use some cheapo cotton gloves. Now the paint is not permanent and will scratch off with a deep fingenail scratch or other surface, but normal handling will not be too bad. I mean its camo, so as it wears it adds character.

Yeah both look great. I just used sOme stripper on mine I didn't like the way the snakeskin looked and painted the stock flat tan and the barrel and scope flat black. FYI the stripper and the hogue stock not a good combo unless you plan on re-painting it anyway
