I have a Remington 7005r being cut to either a 20" or 22" barrel that I will be putting a leupold mark 4 ER/T 6.5-20x50mm M5 on. It has 70 MOA of adjustment and in a perfect world which is usually not true I would have 35 up and 35 down. So lets say even with a few MOAs of wiggle room I zero and have 30 MOA up left plus my 20 MOA base giving my 50 MOA. Not sure the ballistics off the top of my head as this will be my first long range rig. I am guessing it will take somewhere between 40-50 MOA out of a 20" barrel? What do you all think? Just seeing if going to 20" is still plenty for my setup out to 1000 yards. Thanks guys.

Not a .308, but it took 37 3/4 MOA to get out to 1K from my 30-06 pushing a 178 A max on Friday. I do not have an accurate speed on load, so it may be moving a little slower than most 30-06s. My Leupold Vari x 3 was zeroed at 100 yards to start. The barrel is 25 inches long.

Yes..but you are cutting it close depending on the mount you can place shim stock under the rear mount to get you there.

I have use beer can pieces (thin aluminum) to shim one of my guns so the non zero stop scope stopped at my 100 yard zero.
You can not see the shim and it has been on there for years. With no problem

You need a 290 MOA rail with a scope that has at least 150 MOA of adjustment because we all should know by now a 20" .308 will barely make it to 800 yards

You'll be fine
