Rifle Scopes Can a Falcon Menace or SWFA SS withstand 300 WM?

My buddy, for reasons unknown to me, wants a 300 Win Mag build... so I'm left with finding answers to his questions.

He isn't made of money, and is dead set on a 300 Win Mag and nobody is telling him otherwise.

He'll need a gun first, granted. But what kind of scopes is he really limited to?

I'm saying he'll shoot probably 500 yards max around northeast PA, so a SS 5-20 is not necessary.

I'm a big fan of 4-16, or NXS 3.5-15 so this is the route I'm pushing him.

Falcon Menace and SWFA SS are kinda in his price range, so what would you current owners recommend?

All of the SS scopes, except the 1-4x24 and the 5-20x50, claim to be ok for the .50 cal.

I have no experience with either.

I would definitely go with the SS!My 10x has close to 600 rounds bolted on to a 300 WSM with absolutely NO problems. Use the search feature to hear all the bitching about Wonders Optics lately...No brainer if you as me!

Been using a SS 10x on Barrett 50's for the last 5 years at work, no problems. Cumulative round counts over 1k/gun, across a couple dozen combos. No experience with the Falcon.

A Falcon can't withstand normal use, or even a box test for that matter...

I good friend of mine had a menace at the range the other day and it is truly a piece of shit. He said he had three and only one worked.....half ass!

If he hasn't even bought the gun yet, maybe he can just hang on for awhile to see what comes out this year?

It's rumored that SS is coming out with a model that falls in between the 3-9 and 5-20 later this year. I hope like hell it's available before deer hunting! No other real details are out on this new model, but I asked Chris (owner of SWFA) on their forum if a new model is coming. He flatly answered yes, so take that for what it's worth.

I'm gonna wait this one out. I have a SS 3-9 that will work until I can get this new model. I love my 3-9, and there hasn't been much negative over the 5-20, so I expect this mystery model to be another huge success. It's also reportedly going to be lighter than the 5-20 making it ideal for my uses on a walking deer rifle.

If your friend can't wait, would he consider the Vortex PST 4-16?
