Can anyone ID this rifle and scope mounting style?

Hello all,

Was hoping some of you Hide OGs could help ID my friend's rifle and the scope mounting mechanism?




All I know is that it's ~50 years old, chambered in 7RM, 3-9x hunting scope (dunno brand). He inherited it from his dad.

I'm thinking of surprising him with a new scope/rings for his birthday so I don't want to ask him too many questions that might give away the gift. He doesn't know the exact mounting style but says looks like Weaver rail/rings? Would anything on the market these days even fit this rifle without significant modifications? If anyone who is familiar with this specific rifle could help with these questions that would be amazing.

Looks to be a RedField scope and mount

Leupold made a mount like that as well, I believe it was called the opti-lock or something similar.

If I wanted to get him an upgraded scope would there be any mounts that could be a 1:1 drop in?

Have to stay with 1 inch tube with that mount.

Looks like a Redfield or Leupold mount, Leupold still makes the mounts and rings. Bet there's been a ton of scope tubes bent by those windage screws.

Rifle looks to be a Remington 700 ADL though.

If you wanted to swap base, rings and all, there are more than enough options to fit

Edit with that checking is probably a bdl

Do those swaps require permanent modifications? Or are there plug and play options?
