Can I build a custom gun if I buy, say a stiller tac 30 with a 308 bolt face. call kreager or heart etc. order a threaded finished barrel screw it on put it in a stock and shoot it? or do i need a gunsmith. i have one but he takes forever.

the barrel will need to be head spaced for that action-bolt configuration.
I'm sure that both actions are built to hwere the next one has the same specs and one could possibley swap barrels with another action of the same configuration but I woulden't bet on it.
find a new smith ,their are several here that I'm sure their turn around will be very acceptable

If you buy an action from us, we can supply you or chamber you a barrel without the action at any time. All are the same within a thou or so. We do it all the time.

There you have it from the man himself. Jerry, not to step on your toes, but there are a bunch of smiths here on the hide that could sell you a barreled action to drop into a stock. Do some searching.

Stiller and surgeon are great actions. I use them in custom builds for my customers when they request a custom action. If you want the very best results, then the smith chambering the barrel should have the action and recoil lug to be used in hand. How much accuracy are you after matters when chambering a barrel to any action as minimal head space does matter for accuracy. Im new to the forum, but have been building custom precision bolt guns for some time now. Feel free to contact me at suarez tactical rifles for details.
