Hello! Nice to meet you all. This is my first post here, but I've read some things from here before. I think this might be the best place to ask this question.

This was on the Military channel, on a show called Ultimate Weapons. It's supposed to be a M40A3 of some sort. Does anyone know what model it is? It has a unique thumb hole stock and frame that I've never seen on any other M40. It could be mistaken with a AWSM .338 at first glance, but some of its dimensions are different from what I see when I compare the two.

It could be possible that they accidently listed an AWSM as a M40, but it still looks different to me in several ways. Thank you, for any help that is given. I appreciate it.

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

That was taken by me from a Youtube video. It's the name above it, as well as the caliber 6.5x47mm Lapua. They have this format where the name is listed above, the rifle is shown below that and then there is a "biography" below. The lines being fuzzy may be from me cropping the image too.

The whole gun looks a lot larger than the AWSM. More stretched out. Looking at an AWSM, doesn't give me the same "I HAVE TO HAVE THIS!" feeling that supposed M40 does.

I don't expect you to look at this, but if you want to, the details regarding the rifle start in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYJUx7CDBcA at 4:05.

Thank you again for any help you can give.

ETA: And yeah, after that picture is shown, that unique frame and stock go away completely. The guns people are holding look like standard M40A3s with McMillan stocks.

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

I'm starting to believe you're right. It looks too similar to an AW to not be one. However, in the picture it looks like the stock/frame are all one piece. The screws are made less visible, and the real gun will never look like that sadly. It's just stretched from someone manipulating the photo. The dimensions are all messed up.

ETA : Ohhhhh, the stock folds on some of them. That's why that thing is there and the thumb hole grip is "broken". Okay, I'm learning a bit now. Thank you very much for your help! I think you're right! I can't find a AWSM like the one in the picture, but some of the AICS frames look similar without the folding stocks. Kind of pricey for just a frame. I wonder if it would be worth it, aside from the cool factor.

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

You guys are awesome, thank you. I didn't know about the AICS system before I came here. There's one problem though. How do I get that AW style muzzle brake on a R700 barrel?

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

just watched the video, the got shit all fucked up.......

the weapon you have pictured is an AW, bolt lift is 60deg, trade mark square action and rear bolt.

the AW can be purchased in 6.5 x 47 lapua,

The video highlighted the round in several McMillian stocks, notably the A2 but I did see a flash of an A4

That stock is not a AICS

Though ar15.com is generally considered the "special ed" site here on the hide, it's a great source of inspiration for builds, learning about specs, seeing what's out there, etc. It's laden with pic threads, usually pinned to the top of every subforum (in this case, precision rifles). Have a look - 88 pages of precision gun porn

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

The stock in the photo I listed is an AICS though, right? I know the one they show in the actual video is NOT what is in that picture. It's really messed up that they showed an AW for the M40.

ETA: Wow BigBrother, that guy on the first page has got something similar to a Barrett arrowhead brake on his AW.

you buy a AI break and have the barrel threaded to spec......

also think badger makes a break that's pretty much the same.

That thread is making me want more expensive rifles. Stupid AMP DSR-1... *cries* I already wanted a $8500 rifle, I don't need to find more! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME! NOOOOO!

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

I didn't know what the bolt relief was before, but I put it together. Yes, I see, and I understand. Thank you!

I'll admit, I'm new to bolt-action rifles. I've had a few under my skin for years now itching at me, but I've never owned or fired one yet regardless of how much I've wanted one.

It might be the AI AE instead of AW based on the pictures here. http://www.accuracyinternational.com/configurator.php

The forearm area is longer, like in the picture I posted with my question.

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

The M40A3 comes with a McMillan A4 stock. Period.

The M40A5 has a PGW PVS-22 but otherwise the same IIRC

The only changes I'm aware of in the near future are a 20" barrel with a 1:10" twist on the M40A5.

The stocks/chassis on the AE and the AW are identical in overall dimension.

The picture shown at top is of an AW Magnum, as evidenced by the bolt, receiver shape (flat sides), and muzzle brake. Someone at the Military Channel did a really crappy job of photoshopping the image together, with incomplete cropping and then distorted resizing. The fact that it's the wrong picture for the title is just icing on the cake.

Re: Can someone please help identify this rifle?

That looks exactly like it with the exception of a bigger muzzle brake. So the "Ultimate Weapons" people messed up in about 5 different ways within 10 seconds.
