Any Trade war with the US is a losing proposition for the world. Why? Because they need us more than we need them. Trump is right about that. From a political perspective though it can be a loss for Trump. Because it will bring pain before it brings resolution.
Lets say the war escalates and all countries put up barriers prices go up in the short term and people lose jobs. This would be bad for those in power. But in the long term eventually we start spending all the money we now spend in the world at home instead. This pushes employment and wages to all time highs. Boom, America's economy becomes the unstoppable force and the rest of the world hurts.
The world knows this and are only pushing back against Trump hoping to fuel mid-term election loss that drains power from him. Giving them a hand up in negotiations. This is very risky for the world because if Trump gains power not loses it, the world is effed. Their little plan would have blown up in their face. JMHO
