Suppressors Can whilst on active duty

Re: Can whilst on active duty

I don't know of any military regulations against owning a can while on active duty. I'd suspect it depends on whether you live on post or not. If I lived on post, no way in hell would I store something like that in an arms room. I haven't seen any UCMJ regs that restrict firearms ownership beyond what any state laws exist.

Since you're also concerned about moving with a can from state to state, I don't think you'd have problems so long as both Missouri and VA are can-friendly states. There's a lot of guys on here that can tell you for sure about that.

Go HERE for more information, as we've already covered this in the past.

You can pick up your can in MO. I've spent some time looking, and I'm not finding anything relating to ATF forms and moving the can with you to VA.

Re: Can whilst on active duty

cans across state lines don't have to be reported to ATF. Just make sure you don't take it to a state that forbids them for private citizens without class 3 or class 2 permits. the military doesn't care about them, and they shouldn't it's just a metal tube that reduces sound.

You do have to fill out a form if you cross state lines with a suppressor. Even if it's for a day you must fill out a 5320.20 and fax it to the ATF.

a 5320.20 is not required for a suppressor.

A written request and prior authorization from ATF to transport interstate or in foreign commerce any destructive device, machinegun, short-barreled rifle, or short-barreled shotgun is required under the provisions of Section 922 (a)(4), Title 18, U.S.C., and Section 478.28, Title 27, CFR, a letter of request, in duplicate, containing all information required on this form, may be submitted in lieu of the form.

My mistake. Thanks for the clarification.
