Somehow, one would think the people in LE at all levels would choose to follow that oath, maybe moral resistance against shitbags who prefer tyranny. Without a doubt many do. And they get no credit because it doesn't get reported on widely.
At the same time there are more and more who show up on camera doing crap like this Canadian minister fella. A man who is truly familiar with communism.
I wouldn't make a very good LEO simply due to stuff like that.
Having people Respect My Authoritah! is the reason many are in LE, along with job security and pension.
The Protect and Serve, be true to the oath they took and uphold the constitution part, not so much.
That touches on a couple different if not diverging points. And yes I agree in part.
As I said in a previous thread similar to this, I grew up with a protect and serve attitude where I grew up. I actually knew and talked to many local cops from the time of delivering their papers to mowing their grass to later on driving as a dipshit kid.
Several times they had the reasons needed to possibly ruin my life by simply doing their job. Instead one time I was driven around in his cruiser and got my ass chewed out then dropped off at home with no charges.
I've looked back on those events over the years, especially in the last few years. Different generation possibly? Or different training and attitude?
Probably some of both imho.
After 9/11 we all saw a severe course change in training, equipment and attitudes. Necessary.... I have my own opinions on that I'll leave it alone for now.
Now, I am good friends with 2 sheriff's, a couple of staties and fed Leo types. I also support my police. Actually talk to them pretty regularly actually as i don't hate or fear them.
This topic has been raised by me to each of these folks over time as it is a serious consideration in our country today. They would agree with many comments made in these threads in terms of an oath being the standard and they luve by it daily. And when I watch shit like the Canadian I try to remember that.
Personally, the oath I took decades ago and God are the major decision makers in my life. YMMV, we each have our own path for sure.
But I still believe this course change in Leo work is for a reason, break up state and local control to replace it with federalized police.
And after all of that tedious typing I'm still stuck with what I've experienced, what I see and what I hope for.
Unfortunately no answers are forthcoming because this system is winning by using the system itself against us AND current Leo types.
All the while the media continues to drive that fucking wedge between both sides, successfully.
It comes down to the people hired for the job...they will ultimately make the decisions, and that community backing that officer when the system comes down on them for not following the plan so to speak.
I dunno, but something has to change soon, this deterioration is cancerous .
