so if I'm in VA I'm gonna need to pay twice for the $200 stamp? if I send to my dealer

yes, I believe you pay for 2 transfers, plus the fee at your dealer... but check with them, they should be well versed in the process

Is this on a form 3 or form 4?

If its on a form 4 to the seller, then yes, there is a $200 stamp to get the can back to a form 3 to transfer out of TX. There is no fee between dealers and then you’ll pay the $200 tax stamp when you file your paperwork.

If seller in in TX then he needs to sell it to a TX resident.

I meant that most receiving dealers on transfers have a fee for doing the actual transfer to the buyer
Correct. If he knows someone that may do him a favor. He’s still looking at $400 in tax stamps for a $275 can. SO now its $675, plus any dealer transfer fees.

I guess if that’s the case then I’ll just keep it...too much headache for the buyer.

If you find a buyer in TX you can transfer it directly to them without a dealer on a form 4. It’s not hard to fill out. Just like you did previously, you have to hang onto it until the approved paperwork comes back.
