Re: CANDIRU from UGSW

I love it Mike. I've got a picture in my mind of a model 7 in 22-250 sitting their in the picture also. I start drooling when i see your stuff. Great looking hunting and varmint rifles you have been posting.

Dear Skunkworks,
Will you PUH-LEASE stop already with the beautiful, tempting new rifle threads!

You will get me in serious trouble with the other half and also increase your profits! Damn it, but I really like the direction you are going with your new offerings. Thank you for the nice pics and specs.

Thanks Dan. Your Model 7 Action is tuned up and ready for the barrel. You'll be shooting yotes with it pretty soon....

Thanks Legio, thats the last hunting rifle for a little while. I'll give you a bit of a break, but I'll have a few others to post up next week....

Re: CANDIRU from UGSW

That looks really nice but for a hunting rig i'd prefer to see it on a CRF action (FN?). Maybe that's just me, but it's not an issue with .223 anyway. A bigger cartridge would dictate CRF to me.

I like the direction you took on it though, doesn't look too heavy even with the bigger contour. Hell, under 7 lbs is approaching Alaskan Ti weight (6.2lbs on avg), and that is quite a feat.

Thanks Patrick. I just shot you a PM.

Thanks BCW. The .390" BF (.223) uses either a sliding plate (in some models) or CRPF (which isn't "true" CRF).

The CANDIRU with a .480" BF (.22-250, 220 Swift, etc.) would use the CRF action (FNH/Winchester Classic, Pre-64, etc.).

The SHIKARI (.300RCM) (http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2570208&gonew=1#UNREAD),

and the WAPITI (LA Standard and Magnum Calibers) (http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2575216&gonew=1#UNREAD)

both use the CRF action. I much prefer CRF in a hunting rig and build on a lot of FNH/Winchester actions.

I recently ran across two complete Pre-64 Model 70 actions with the .480" BF and will be building up a couple extra hunting rigs....

Re: CANDIRU from UGSW

See, now those are more my flavor. Thanks for the links, I REALLY dig that wapiti... though I bet it's an ass kicker in magnum chamberings due to the weight (or lack there of).

No problem. I had to correct my previous post regarding chambers in the WAPITI.

Due to stock design, it's not that bad with the Magnums (.300WM) and it's a mere puppy with the .280AI and .30-06.

The rifle with the sharpest recoil (off the bench) is the SHIKARI in .300RCM. It starts to calm down from the prone and field positions though....

Is that package a gas gun? It's not on the website? </div></div>

It's a 16" bolt gun and it's not on the site yet. I'm working on a few ammo details so the ammo offerings for bolt guns will be better than what's available for AR's. The load I have for it really packs a wallop and it's better for precision work than the loads designed to cycle AR's.

Working on it. The shooting proto has been used for load development and I expect to get the finished rifles done within the next couple weeks. Pics forthcoming....
