My wife adopted my acog for her rifle and now I need to buy a scope. I have read all the threads about scopes etc. The rifle is an LMT-MWS 18" SS barrel. I will be shooting from 2-600yds with an occasional longer distance (8-1k) but the longer distance will be rare.

Looking for a scope that is not too heavy, compact or mid-compact, Mlr/Mlr, day/night illuminated, 2x10, 3x15 or 3x20 range approximately (not sure what I need), clear crisp glass, rugged, holds zero, repeatable, maybe ffp not sure, zero stop, maybe high speed not sure.

Is the upcoming March scope a good candidate? Any others?

Re: Cant decide what scope suits rifle/needs advice?

New March coming would likely be a nice choice.

NF 2.5-10x32mm might also be worthy of consideration. I've used one successfully out to 600 yards.

Leupold's new FFP models with M5 (mil) turrents, such as the 4.5-14x50mm, are another lightweight option, but not sure if illumination is available.

Premier Heritage Light Tactical 3-15x50mm with 30mm tube available soon is another potential option for your application.

The new March looks like exactly what I want.

2.5-25x42 Scope
21oz
12 inches long

How are these scope or the March brand? Only a Japanese website?

I looked at the nightforce its HUGE and heavy. Premier burned scott at LO so I wont buy one of those.

To figure out what you need, what size targets are you shooting at? 3/4 IPSC or p-dogs at 600? How light are you really looking for? Finally and probably the most important question.... Budget? I'm assuming high if you're considering March.

Right off the bat when someone says compact, lightweight and rugged I think 2.5-10x32 Nightforce. Don't mind a bit more weight and price I would recommend the USO 1.8-10x, especially if FFP is what you decide on. This is considering you're shooting at least 1moa targets, with the bulk in the 2+moa range. Smaller targets would of course necessitate higher magnification.

I have yet to see a March in person so I can't weigh in on those. They sure sound nice in reviews from Ilya and others, but they're still a bit too new on the scene for my taste.

Myself personally, being in the process of a similar build to yours, am looking to go with a 3-12x S&B or Hensoldt; just have to pay a few more bills first. I'm working on shaving weight in areas other than the optic as it's a higher priority for me.

Good luck in your search.

Its a tough decision especially since you cannot look through the scopes and try them out at 850yds. You are basically at the online reviews mercy.

The March is not ffp and that will hurt resale when the ffp does come out if you were to ever sell the scope. Its also screws with ranging.

Here is the target Im shooting at. 12x17 steel

If you intend on using the mil scale for ranging and holds, then I wouldn't consider anything other than a FFP. The weight increases, but at the same time you have an increase in capability and versatility.

2+moa target you're fine with 10x on the top end. More is better but size increases too. You're always going to have compromises. You just need to figure out what you're willing to give up and what has the priority.

Re: Cant decide what scope suits rifle/needs advice?

I'm getting a USO 1.8-10X37, they're not the lightest starting around 1.5 pounds (26 oz) but they're fairly compact at about 12 inches long. I don't think their illumination is daylight visible (my last USO wasn't) but I haven't seen it with the new digital setup (getting it on the new one). They're available in MIL/MIL and the EREK knob can be setup for a zero stop. Worth a look in my opinion. If you're going to go up in magnification I'd look elsewhere since the weight goes up quick.

If I may ask, where are you located? Looks like you might be in or near CA looking at the pics, kind of high desert-ish.
