so here's the setup:

Remington 700 chambered in 300WM
Leupold Mark 4 10x40 with M3 knobs
Leupold 20 MOA base
Leupold Mark 4 Low Rings

Here's the problem:

With the scope adjusted as low as it can go, I'm still a couple feet above the paper!

I had a Weaver 4-20x50 mounted in Leupold Med Rings and it worked just fine.

It's not my first rodeo and it's my belief that there's something wrong with the scope (I counted 58 clicks instead of the 75 they advertise, but it's difficult to tell with M3 knobs), but I'd like to rule myself and my rifle out as sources of error before I call Leupold.

Re: can't zero a 300WM

You did take off the elevation knob when you where trying to go lower right? When you take the turret knob off there should be a slot for a coin or a flat head. Do a field bore sight(take bolt out and aim the bore at target) turn the elevation down until center on target. You should be good to go after that. If you have already done all of the above send it in to Leupold,as you should have a ton more travel than the 58 MOA you are getting.

M3 10x and 20 moa base = No go they were designed for a flat base.Sometimes they will barely work with a 20moa but usually not. They have alot of travel but its almost all up.

Sloth,

You have two problems, both of which are unique to Leupold's military version of the 10x40MM M3. First it has a zero stop, the only original Mk4 so equipped, and I believe that's what's giving you on 58 moa instead of 75 MOA.

Second, the 10x40mm M3's were originally designed for the Big Green Machine (US Army). Part of their initial design was a built-in 20 MOA cant. They were made to run on 0 MOA Leupy bases, which was the original Army spec, not a canted base.

Your running this scope on a 20 MOA canted base, with a built-in 20 MOA cant in your scope, totaling 40 MOA of cant, which is more than half it's travel.

Give Leupy a call, and they can tell you the how's of the zero stop, and run that puppy on a flat base, and you should be good to go.
