Carolina Sniper Golf 30 June 2012

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 30 June 2012

Had a great time yesterday guys. Thanks a lot to Kyle for putting it together and to all the RO's for helping make it run smoothly. Some of the stages were really challenging allowing those who had the skills to shine and some were easy enough that the rest of us could try and catch up. Kudos to the person who thought up the Into the Abyss stage. I have never seen that type of shot before. Thanks again to Chad the comic relief of watching you get beat up by that 300 and for the addition of the sweet suppressed full auto MP5. It was great meeting some new people, some beautiful rifles, and seeing some amazing runs on the stages.

Second the thanks to Kyle and all the RO's. A BIG shout out to Gabe for sitting on that truck in the sun for about 2 hours calling wind for ALOT of folks, including myself. Because of his wind call I made a first round hit at 775 yards on the Abyss shot....oh yeah, from a 17.5" barrel 308

Big thanks to Adam Gladden (the guy that came up there with me) he is the one I belive ya'll are refering to that made the great calls on the Abyss stage, He did an amazing job spotting all day. Yes I bought a lottery ticket on the way home, and LOST. Can't wait to check out that new rifle!

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 30 June 2012

Guys, thank you for coming out in spite of the heat. It was a good day for some shooting albeit a little on the hellish warm side.

Ashton shot well with his little ar15 and made his shots count. Great shooting guy!

My camera crapped out on the setup day so I didn't take pics, but I'm sure some of the other shooters did.

A big thanks goes out to all the sponsors. Thank you for the continued support of our events. I, and the shooters, appreciate it.

Stay tuned for the next match..... When the weather is cooler, maybe middle of January to be safe ;-)

I'm not sure what the 30 cal guys were running for windage on the 550 targets, but I never had to hold more than 3/4 mil to get my hits. </div></div>

Thanks for the info, I have spoke to Brandon(BHW)once or twice about wildcats since he is on 68Forums. Harrison at ARP also does them. I have a Mega billet upper/lower begging to be built, just need to decide what direction. Here lately, I haven't had the time to reload my 6.8 or .308 much so I'm kind of scared of adding a new caliber.

I've read of the 6mm wildcats performing well but the proof was there yesterday. With a lot invested in 6.8 stuff, the BHW 6X6.8 looks like a good choice for me. I'd rather have a melonite barrel though.

The 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor have really shown themselves to do very well during both of the formats out on the farm.

So very true. I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and re-barrel one of my ARs to either 6.5 Grendel or 6mmAR for this game. Every match I've shot so far I've seen the benefits of the autos and with these 2 cartridges now I can surpass 308 performance in my small frame ARs. Probably gonna get with you about a JP 6.5 barrel.

Guys, here are the scores. Good shooting by all, it was not an easy day!

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 30 June 2012

This was my first "golf match" as well. As with everyone, I know I could have done better at a stage or two (or four; to be exact) but learned a few things & hope to be more competitive next time.

I had a great time, the match was fun & challenging. With 13 (IIRC) stage presentations there was a good variety of positions/shots. The MP5 stage was a neat surprise, but didn’t help my score with the “fun” temptation to hold down the trigger. Food was dang good too (especially after missing lunch).

Thanks to all the sponsors (especially Chad stepping up & sponsoring a stage with cool toys & ammo), the prizes help justify the cost to us poor guys & gives some good promotion out of it as well.

Congratulations again to Ashton, very good shooting with the 223. It helps to have good equipment, but he showed it's the Indian more than the arrow. A single digit score was impressive. Of course if he gets a 6.5, maybe he'll be break into the negatives next time!
