Any Shooters with Carpel i have it pretty bad surgery worthy ... i can get sharp pains in my hand with sporter stocks and wide triggers ... Do the higher end tactical stocks reposition the angle of the wriste ... Im wondering if i should be looking at thumbhole vs tactical ... The General consensus is try before you buy which i would but there arnt many places for me to check out high end stocks locally.

I was going to experiment with stocks on my 22s but as inexpensive as they are they cost money that i dont have. If you have Carpel would love to here you thoughts.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

I think a thumbhole stock would give you a better position so your wrist is straight. If you complete your profile to include your location there may be someone local to you that will let you try out some of their gear to see if it fits.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

I have carpel tunnel and I am using a B&C Tactical Medalist A2. It has a pretty straight up and down pistol grip area. I don't have to bend my wrist at all to get a good hold. It just feels so much better than the angled pistol grips do. I also like the feel of the standard pistol grip on AR's .... feels more natural.

We have a local wholesale sports and they have hundreds of different rifles. Find a place like that or cabelas local and try them for feel.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

same here, carpel tunnel and it sucks, for me the AR grip angle is good to go as is the Manners T4, only hurts when picking up the rifle, not shooting it.
good luck.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

Generally speaking the median nerve is in front of the tendons. The palm is anatomically the front of the hand. The nerve is pressed against the transverse carpal ligament when the wrist is flexed (bent forward toward palm). The nerve has more room when the wrist is extended(tilted back away from the palm). I would think a thumb hole or pistol grip type stock would let the wrist extend more and cause less problem with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

Lol get it fixed and shoot what i have ... Beleive me it may be comeing soon if insurance will cover it .. if not then i'll pretend i did suck up the pain and use the money on an M24 As i this on my phone my thumb is going numb and my fore arms on fire. Thats for all the suggestions and a cabelas is a good idea but they arnt too close but worth a drive to get the right stock ... Have to break it in and make sure its all good before i touch it anyway .... The HS thumhole is looking like a possibility but will check out the others suggested.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

So does anyone have the HS precision thumb hole?

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

You could probably find a stock that would help....but you are just asking for further problems down the road. I waited to have both of mine done....waited too long. As a result of the nerve being compressed for too long...I lost muscle mass in the base of both thumbs. When the nerve is compromised...often times we get muscle wasting. This, for me, is a permanent deal. I've permanently lost a significant chunk of the grip strength I once had.

I had mine done 15 years ago....sad thing is...it's starting to come back again.

Do yourself a huge favor...get checked yours checked out and do the surgical release as soon as you can swing it.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

I have bi-lateral carpal tunnel. Had surgery twice on the left hand in less than ten years. The left hand just keeps getting worse. The right hand is degrading at a slightly slower rate.

Get the surgery done ASAP. Go to your primary care doctor and get a referral to an ortho specialist. They will do the nerve testing and everything else needed to determine the course of action.
A new gun would be nice, but I'll take the use of my hands over that any day...

most insurance companies cover it and it is a pretty quick and simple surgery usually, in and out in a few hours, recovery period can vary but you should be back shooting in a little over a month. Get it done and get shooting what you have already

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

Do the surgery. Plastic surgeons and Hand surgeons generally leave a better scar. You will lose a bit of grip strength...the carpal ligament holds the wrist bones together. When you sever it, you don't have as much grasp. However...if you wait until the "numb" is permanent...you will lose not only feeling but muscle mass. Forget the new stock for now and get tested and operated. My opinion and experience.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

Yea i have it in both hands, and already have muscle wasting in the thumbs, not only do i have carpel issue i have neuropathy in the nerve that runs to the pinky and ring fingers.. so my whole hand is messed up. My grip is gone.

I was due for a followup with the neurologist better call him up and get the ball rolling. already did the therapy thing knew it wouldn't work but gave it a go anyway.

just 1 of the 2 too three surgery's i may need.

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

I tried therapy and cortazone but they did not work for me. The CPS got to the point that I could not drive, shake hands or hold a pistol.

I had the surgery on both wrists. The surgery is fast, CPS relief is immediate, and there was no postop pain. Do not get both done at the same time unless you have someone to wipe for you!!

The recovery (to full hand strength) took time but the relief was immediate and more improtantly, ceased further nerve damage. This sexy senior citizen is back to the gym and lifting, the CPS is now a bad dream, and I can hold a steering wheel for longer than 20 seconds without my hands feeling like there are on fire.

GET THE SURGERY!

Re: Carpel Tunnel stock choice.

Another vote for the surgery. I had the neuropathy and loss of grip strength. Tools would just drop out of my hand without me realizing why.

Get it done sooner than later. I'm not sure my hands ever fully recovered but they are still useful and functional which is the main goal - isn't it?
