What do you carry your optics in when traveling and not mounted on your weapon? I have a US Optics SN-3 3.2-17x that I will be traveling by airplane with. I need some type of padded case to transport it with that isn't huge. It is about 19" in total length. A hard pelican case would work also, but gotta be no bigger 19"x6"x6". Any suggestions?

I leave my scopes on my rifles and fly with them in a Starlight case. Never had a problem. Why not just leave it on the rifle?

That's usually what I do, but I have the Scope with me but will be picking the rifle up. The scope is not mounted yet.

    How about via carry on?

I transported my Pentax spotting scope in my carry on from Asia back into the U.S. It ensures I'm the only one handling the optic and it doesn't get bumped around like it usually would. I wrapped it around a nylon pad with cushioning, rolled it up and tied it with velcro straps.

Thanks, the plan is definitely to carry it in a carry-on. I am trying to provide as much protection as possible. If I have to makeshift something I am sure I can, but getting an extra case is my goal. Thanks for the idea.

For carry on just leave it in the box it came in or wrap it with some bubble wrap and throw it in the cary on bag.

Too true, I did buy a USO because of it's reputation for durability, but I just bought it, and haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I will be picking up my rifle and headed to a long range course and will have plenty of time to beat it up there. With my luck I won't get on the plane good and phuck it up. So just looking for a little extra assurance.

My advice? Got throw it across the parking lot. Get that 'newness" scraped off. That way you can worry about using it for what it was intended.

LOL! Thanks as that is good advice, it isn't new, just new to me. Not worried bout it being newish, just do't have another to replace it if I phuck it up. Really looking forward to shooting with it. But sounds like I might be a little too apprehensive. Guess I'll have to get some bubble wrap and wrap it up for the 13 hour plane ride.

It's a USO with a lifetime warranty. Just duct tape it to the outside of your checked bag and you'll be fine.

Expensive telephoto camera lenses of that length will also be 2-3 times the diameter of a SN-3.

Check out some of these cases on the Think Tank website.

    Think Tank Bazooka

They have lens cases of course, but you may have better luck with the cases for intended for tripods which come in longer and narrower sizes.

The Bazooka series adjusts for length and this one may work, as the inside dimension adjusts from 15 to 30" long x 5" diameter (16 to 31" L x 6" x 6" outside).
