I am taking a class in June. I am also using a blind mag, just dont have the funds to go to a dbm right now.

For those using a blind mag, how are yall transporting ammo to and from different shooting positions or areas?

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

I was in the exact same situation down at rifles only, and while i was a PITA, it didnt hold me back. I carried a pack with gear/ammo. When we did run and gun(shoot house) i was put the alloted amount of rounds in my pocket and reload from there. not 100% effecient but effective.

Do they fit in a pouch? Like a AR mag pouch?

I put em in a waist pack from Highspeed Gear. I immagine they would fit in an AR pouch though.

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

Federal GMM plastic ammo carriers work great for the 308 family, fit in USGI AR mag pouches too, kengel2 PM me your address and I will send you some.

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

One of our fellow Hide members makes a product called the Tactical Ammo Burrito.

But how do you carry that? Do you just put it in a pack and take the pack off everytime? Or do you have some pouches like a mag pouch that fit them securely?

I guess I am looking for something that will hold that ammo securely and easily accessible. I like the ammo wallets and burritos, but would like a way to secure them to my person. I do have a tactical tailor mini mav that I can tailor to my needs if there are pouches that will hold these wallets and not have them fall out.

Then the Eagle carrier is what you are looking for:

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

ready ammo is loose in pouch, bulk in Fed red plastic holders. Amax tips dont like a lot of rough handling but plucking rounds out of a burritto under time stress can be fun to watch but not so much to try.

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

The Burrito's are good for carrying ammo. I toss them in my pack, maybe one in a pocket. I really like them when I set up a position. I can have my ammo and data laid right out on the ground beside me- clean and organized. They are not the best for speed- that’s where a DBM and extra magazines always win.

Another thing to consider is the RedTac Ammo Cards. They would be a bit faster, as you would not have to undo them like the Burrito. They still need to be stashed in a pocket or pack though.

RedTac also makes Ammo Cards that have velcro backing. Ten rounds on the front, Velcro on the back. Simply sew some velcro wherever on your pack or jacket and stick ten sounds on.

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

You could go on the cheap and cut the plastic ammo carriers in the ammo box in half so they will carry five rounds. I usually keep a few of them cut like that in my pack it works in a pinch.

Re: Carrying extra ammo??

kengel2,

Grand River Tactical makes a pouch sized to hold ammo cards. The pouch holds three 20rnd ammo cards.

Pouch+ammo cards is an excellent way to carry extra rounds. the cards are more compact than mags, and they are more convenient to carry compared with regular ammo boxes. I would not use a pouch + cards in a run and shoot situation. Reload efficiency is good, but not ideal. If i didn't have a core set of mags and a dbm, I would use a bandolier style area (rounds held in place with loops) for fast access.
