What's the best way to go at removing the brass out of a .308 remingtom chamber after you have a case head seperation? Just curious the rifle is at the smith now, but just tring to understand what he is going to do to remove it.

Thanks
Ken

Re: Case head seperation

Easiest and cheapest way to try is to take a fired case and feed it behind what's left in the chamber - a lot of times that will get it out. Also broken shell extractor above, and if both fail, cerrosafe & cleaning rod will get it out....

Cheers,

Bill

The Brownells tool is OK if theres a good bit of brass in there to pick up but if all thats inside is the shoulder part thats different. I usually just get a small tap and very carefully feed it into the neck of the stuck cartridge. Not one to be getting wrong but this never failed for me.

You can take a 45cal copper or bronze brush, twist it into the remaining brass case and then pull it out with a cleaning rod. I've used this method with 9mm brushes on 223 cases many times and more than a couple times on M1A's (with the 45 brush) that popped heads.
