Case neck turning tool recomendations

Re: Case neck turning tool recomendations

I did pick the Forster HOT-100 Hand Operated Turner).

Why? It's simple and works well. It has a carbide cutter with a relieved corner to reduce damage to case shoulders. A micrometer "calibrated" adjustment screw. If the case necks are well fitted to the pilot and used correctly, it will uniform my necks to well under a thou of variation. And the price was quite reasonable!

IF I had a rifle with a tight neck chamber that was capabile of shooting in the ones I MIGHT consider a more expensive turner; I don't have that.

If you have the money, the "Pumpkin Turner" is wonderful for sneaking up by the tenth.

I have 2 different Sinclairs units that both work fine if you understand how to set them.

No matter what... I don't do crank handles on neck turning tools.

Why no crank handles Vic and what do you use in place of?

I agree with Victor! No hand turning for me! K&M makes a unit that uses Lee Auto Prime shell holders! You put the brass in and screw the bottom up and it holds it in the turining unit! Place it in a drill and go to town!

If you have a 1/2" KEYLESS chuck drill with a back gear (slow speed) you have all you need. Mine is a heavy duty DeWalt 18 volt. The keyless chuck will hold the cases as true if not better than any adapter. And it's a lot easier on your fingers. Be sure to keep the mandrel well lubed. Even if it's one of the carbide ones, They still need lube to stay cool.

I have used it up to 308 and 30-06 base cartridges. The chuck isn't big enough to do belted mag cases like the 300 Winmag. I have a 5/8" chuck. But I haven't tried to turn any Winmag cases.

+ 1 for the k&m, I got mine last week, very pleased with results. They were out of stock on the case holder though, so I use an old Lee case holder from their cheap hand held case trimmer.
Works the same, and also has a 1/4" hex drive on it to put in a battery screwdriver

suasponte....does the part that threads up and locks it in, go into the primer pocket?? </div></div>

No, it does not go up into the primer pocket. It just pushes up on the base of the brass.

I give the Pumpkin and Sinclair turners kudos, but for the money, the K&M is a great tool.

Ditto on Victor's drill tip. I use Imperial lube.
