I have 1x fired brass for my AR15 1:7 twist, 5.56 chamber.

I'll be using an RCBS X-die (small base). So, do I just FL size with the X-die, and the case is ready for bullet seating?

Do I still neck size the case to uniform it and take out any dents from extraction/getting stepped on?

As said by HPW, the die sizes the neck and will iron out the dents just like any other die. You know the X dies have special instructions to follow. They are different than regular dies. Did you read the instructions ? You do have to trim the cases back .020" from SAAMI max. after the first F/L sizing. You F/L size them first with the die set not using the X feature. You then trim them .020" short and after that you set the X feature.

Here's a PDF with the instructions if you don't have them.

I use the X die for a 260 Remington hunting rifle. It works well, but you do need to understand the instructions.
