How do you get it out? Is there a home fix or is this a gunsmith fix? I cant come up with a way to get it out short of an ease out.

A ruptured case extractor will work. There are different calibers available. this one is for 30/06:

Thread a pipe tap into the remaining case that is stuck in the chamber and tap the whole shit out with a cleaning rod. To figure out the correct tap cut an old case and see what size tap threads into the case. Don't run it in so deep the damage the chamber. Also you will need a tap socket and extension to get the job done. It works so will you will put one in your range bag for when this happens mid string of a match

Simple and SAFE...... use an oversize brass brush.....force it in.... pull csae out....
DO NOT PUT A TAP IN YOUR CHAMBER.....!!!!

If the gun is disabled waiting for an extractor I've used epoxy to get a seperated case out. Muzzle down seal the neck of the case with a plug (cotton ball). Mixed some JB Weld, used a straw to suck some up and then fill the case carefully, not getting it anywhere in the action. A few hours later (overnight), knocked it out with a wooden dowel from the muzzle. Worked on a seperated case in a sizing die too.

You might want to add that oversized brush to your field kit. That probably won't be your last case head separation.

You know that is my first time for that to happen. I'm on my second 1000 primers for 2012 so I do shoot a little. Gad you guys showed me that trick.

Freezer. Get it ice cold, will help with whatever method you do use. I have used taps as well as broken case extractors and brushes. However the freezer trick does help a great deal.

This is the easiest and fastest way to do it and will not harm your chamber if you do as advised in the post. This is what most professional GS who have tried everything else do. Now remember we remove the cases that most guys spent days trying to get out at home with no luck. So it may sound a little extreme but with the right sized tap it is 100% doable, I won't call it fool-prof because that is what got you in your current situation.

I keep a 1/2" round rat tail file around. It works on 308 and up size cases. Tape up the center section to protect the action. Insert, a quick twist and then tap the case out with a cleaning rod.

A quick yank with a rod generally pulls the case free.
A tap would work, but one slip and you've got 60+ rockwell steel in the vicinity of 32 rockwell steel.
It WILL mark the chamber and that would just suck.

sometimes all you need to do is cool the case from the inside out.
you'll have to have the extractor ready and know what it takes to bite as the case will quickly heat back up to room temp.
Get some of that keyboard cleaner...canned air. Turn it upside down (you'll need the little tube attached) and spray the inside of the case till it turns white. (when it cools it will shrink in OD)
Slide in your screw extractor and turn the case out.
if the above doesn't work...yea, epoxy will work
