CCI BR-2 problems

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

could be a number of issues; are you seating them to deep? what did the strike look like on the cap?

CCI's take a good punch to go off and generally there are 2 items that cause them not to pop. not seated completely and weak hammer or striker springs

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

So you are sure your having primer problems and not:

Lite primer strikes due to a firing pin problems and/or primer pockets cut too deep on a new lot of brass. Or contaminated primers due to your handling/mishandling of them.

And have you called CCI yet for resolution/help, if none of the above applies.

Or do you just looking for sympathy.......and not corrective actions????

Check into it, but CCI had a recall on the BR-2s in fall of '10, I think it was.

Sensitivity issues.

Call them and see if your lot number isn't one and the same, as the problem primers.

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

Im glad you brought this up. I've been having 3 or 4 out of 100 not fire lately. Good primer strikes on all of them.

Need to check the lot ....

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

lately....i have been experiencing some that are not torching off also, but they are not BR's just 200's in new lapua in .308

just read an article in the first issue of SNIPER about just this problem....i did hit them twice and thus ruined any chance of sending back the boo-boo for examination.

my housekeeping skills are impeccable so i don't think contamination is an issue.

I've seen how you travel and don't think you can back that statement up with proof!

I had a similar problem, BR2's loaded in new winchester brass(uncut pocket) and fired in a rifle that hereto never had a misfire. Out of 50 rounds loaded, 4-5 had to be hit twice in order to fire, and 3-4 of them wouldn't fire at all.

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

I have never had a CCI misfire that was struck proper and my housekeeping is extremely peccable, bordering on slovenly. I do strive for a mad scientist look in my gun room.
I don't have any CCI later model than 2008, so is it possible that the mad rush in 2008 and 2009 contributed to some QC issues? I hope there is not an issue with the newer runs as It is time for me to buy a couple cases again.
As a side note, I bought some Wolf small rifle magnums to try recently. I loaded them in some 6BR for my XP US gun and shot them in competition in May. I had 5 misfires in 40 rounds. I had heard all kinds of good things about them and as soon as I had a misfire my spotter(who happens to be my gunsmith) said,"What the hell..." I told him I am trying some Wolf primers, he told me,"Dumbass, people have been talking about them misfiring all over the internet". Now I feel like Boltripper....."Why was I not alerted?".

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

Did you pull the bullets to confirm the cases were charged with powder? I had a few BR's that "didnt" go off and when I pulled the bullets there was no powder in the case. Couldnt hear the pop from the primer as I was shooting next to people. The base of the bullet was covered in soot.

Re: CCI BR-2 problems

Been flying all week so just got back to this subject. Primer had a very good hit and I even tried to refire them with no luck. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
