CCI SV groupings

I just received my Vudoo barreled action and made a quick range trip to see how my random stockpile of CCI SV would shoot out it it at 50 yards. You could hear the inconsistencies in the velocity due to periodic supersonic cracks. Some 5 round groups would be phenomenal, and some were not great. But the true sign of it’s consistency was exposed on the bottom 10 round group. It won’t be bad for killing squirrels, or shooting 2-3 MOA targets, but it wasn’t exactly confidence inspiring.

Similar...had a few bricks from about 3 yrs ago that shot surprisingly consistent dime sized groups with the occasional flyer.

Newer lots—I have about 6K of A05 and A08–shoot much like your experience. Fine for fun shooting, breaking clays on the berm, practicing positional, etc. The older stuff was impressive for $19 a brick.

ETA--YES, the dark blue box on the older stuff....

I’m finding the same results. Older CCI SV with the dark blue box shot very well. The newer light blue box isn’t nearly as consistent. The knurlning on the drive bands aren’t as clean/even on the newer batch.
YMMV, happy shooting

Looks about typical with CCI Std. The latest brick I have been shooting (older dark blue box) has averaged sub .5" @ 50yds but that is better than most I have had. Most average somewhere in the .5's or .6's. It's at the price and good for practice at close ranges but not fit for a match or long range shooting. The velocity ES I had in just a few rounds from this better than average brick was 60fps so not suitable for long range. Of course, your Vudoo will perform much better with better stuff.

And the results are surprising how? ;)

It's CCI rimfire. Minimal quality control, made as fast as possible
in order to sell as much as possible.
It's bulk ammo no matter what is printed on the label.
The factory doesn't grade the batches produced, simply tests for function and chamber pressures.
Considering the defects found during a visual inspection before chambering,
it's surprising that the results aren't worse. :D

Give this a try...

Grab a box of whatever type of CCI product makes you happy.
Place ye'r rifle in a one piece rest to minimize human error.
Dial your scope up about 2 inches so you don't punch out ye'r aimpoint,
then at 50 yards, send all 50 shots at the target holding that single aimpoint.
It's extremely educational when you see the final group size for those 50 shots.
If ye'r a true glutton for punishment, try it at 100 yards too.
Then get back to us for further discussion.
