Owned both. Got rid of the Walther PPS 9mm and still have the Taurus 709 Slim. Both were reliable. The Taurus was more accurate as the walther grouped consistently 2" to the right of POA. The Taurus is lighter and in my opinion has a way better trigger than the walther had. Additionally, the Walther PPS is a striker fired system and you don't have the second round strike capability that you do w/ the 709 slim.
That-being-said, I don't carry the Taurus. Mainly bought it for the wife to shoot as it fits here hand extremely well (better than the Walther PPS did, however, I personally liked the feel of the PPS better than the 709 Slim). I carry a Glock 19 when at all possible. If not carrying my G19 I carry a Ruger LCP in .380 w/ Hornady Critical Defense Ammo. Just remember that whatever you choose make sure that you carry it because the #1 rule in a gun fight is, "make sure you bring a gun to the fight". Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions you would like me to answer just fire away.
Again, you will get a lot of opinions on these types of subjective questions so the best thing is to try and hold/shoot both and see what does best for you.
