Morning guys, I was perusing CDNN's new catalog today and noticed that they are selling Howa 1500 varmint rifles in various calibers now. The price is pretty good, I've heard alot of good things about the 1500's, and I've been thinking of throwing together a .223 varmint rig for a while now so I think I'm going to grab one of these. Is there anyone in particular I should talk to when I call CDNN? Maybe someone ya'll have dealt with in the past who was particularly easy to deal with?

This is true. I have a friend who is a gunsmith and he had a customer's Weatherby Vanguard (rebadged Howa 1500) that he was trying to rebarrel and in the end we needed an 8' cheater bar. The threads are metric too which is also a PITA for many smaller shops that aren't equipped to cut metric threads.

Re: CDNN

Yeah I wasn't planning on messing with the barrel any time soon. I'm just going to start with the factory B/A as a base and go from there. Not planning on a high dollar build here. Just a relatively innexpensive coyote rifle that will also work as a mid-range paper-puncher that's a bit cheaper to shoot than my .308.

So I'll give Ken a call and see what I end up with. There are far too many good deals in that catalog...

Re: CDNN

Don't mean to hi-jack at all. I have looked at CDNN for those "FN actions" and all I see is complete rifles. Are you guys buying the rifles and scrapping the stock and barrel, or are you just getting the actions. I have been interested in picking up a FN action for sometime now.

You can just buy the action from them.

I believe the varmint rifle in either 20" or 24" is going for $399 in what looks like a really cheap plastic stock. But for that price I can drop it into a decent stock and still be in to it for less than an SPS varmint... They've got them in .204 ruger, 223, 22-250, .243, and 308.

Re: CDNN

They are selling complete SPR FN short actions with canted picatinney base, trigger, floor plate and detachable magazine for $350.00. I got a friend that bought two. Can't beat the price and a great set up for a custom build.

Great deal, too bad they ran out of the ones that came with barrels and the the floorplate models.

Wish they made LA SPRs though! I have to keep using complete models 70s and wasting good barrels/stocks for builds.

+1 Just when I wanted one of the PBR barreled actions they sell out. Those were awesome deals for the money as long as they were the XP model.
