    Honing has zero effect on heat treat. I suppose someone "could" hone far enough to burn through a case hardened part, but gawd, you'd be there for days trying to do it while wearing out at least a handful of stones in the process.

    Note to all/self: Chasing a thread on a bolt with a Guhring 1/2-13 bottoming tap while having an index fingertip in close proximity is exactly how hamburger gets made should you ever find the need to explore that on yourself. :)
