Has anyone tried Gre Tan's chamber flushing system for either chambering in the headstock or chambering between centers?
The system needs a gear pump that pushes the oil at 80 to 125 psi
anyone tried the Shertech pump?

Re: chamber flushing system

Coelk,

I have used the Barrel through headstock system before with really good success. I used Rustlick 255R and I have had some very clean tight chambers.

It is a good system and I ran it with jut a regular coolant pump with lower double digit PSI.

Now I run a high pressure pump and Re Li On cutting oil through the same setup.

Re: chamber flushing system

Yeah, I dont like to chamber with out it. I just dont think its a good idea to keep pulling a reamer out, cleaning it off, and sticking it back in. I think it would be hard to argue that pulling it out less is has no benefit. Plus, the reamer stays cooler, lubed up better and the chips get removed.

Re: chamber flushing system

Im thinking about getting the GTR system and running it from the pump on the lathe. Theres a fair bit of grunt in the pump on the lathe. Any taughts on this

Surely out of almost 32000 members, someone knows a bit about these.

Re: chamber flushing system

Any system will work and just remember you need reamers with the longer pilots for pressure flushing while reaming. They do have an advantage of not letting the chips build up and make sure their is a constant supply of cutting oil on the reamer at all times. we like to use a roughing reamer as we dont have the lathe set up for pressure feeeding so using a rougher then replacing the reamer with a nice sharp finishing reamer but you have to be very carefull replacing the reamer so you dont score the chamber. either way will work with exceptional chambers but the pressurised flushing system has merit but can be a bit more messy.

If the coolant pump will pump thicker cutting oil you should be good to go it has to be able to wash the chips away and if it does that you should have no trouble. our lathe does not have a coolant system but we are looking at it.
