I was planning on a hybrid prs/coyote gun and have since decided that two purpose built guns would make more sense for me. So I could use some advice on barrel contour for the hunting rifle.

lone peak fusion action, foundation revelation stock.

It will be chambered in 6 creedmoor with a 20”-22” barrel length. Weight is a factor but i do not want to give up accuracy.

thanks

Seeing how I just ordered a barrel myself and have been asking these same questions...

I actually asked two or three barrel manufacturers what they suggested just to compare notes.

All of them said it's not a big deal considering the caliber I was going with. They all came back and said that it comes down to heat. If you are going to be shooting a lot or in matches or just doing mag dumps then you can get a heavier profile.

If you are going into a bigger much heavier recoiling round then the profile will matter a whole lot more.

As far as accuracy goes that's going to be a function of the manufacturing process and your ammo. Doesn't really matter in regards to profiles except for when you go to heavy firing schedules in light pencil type of barrels (excess heat)... whatever that balance may be for you is really your choice.

oh something to carry as light as you could get it pencil thin , a stationary gun where weight is your friend id go non tapered straight pipe and long 28'' or more make it an artillery piece . and since it's not me carrying it double the weight of the gun normally with lead or tungsten plates make any caliber feel like a 223 or 22lr recoil wise . And good luck what ever you end up doing .

I like the medium palma I’m running on my do all rig that’s turned into a coyote rig recently, it’s got enough weight that I eats a little recoil but is still light enough to pack around at 26”

#5 barrel taper is about perfect for my heavy hunting rifles.. If Im going back country hunting, Ill bring my hunting rifle with its sporter taper barrel, but the #5 is an excellent balance between extra meat-on-the-bone for thermal properties, weight and stability.

I like that it doesnt look puny also.

For me, for a hunting only rifle, as long as the muzzle is able to be threaded for a can. So nothing smaller than .725 for me. Beyond that, it just comes down to rate of fire and how much you want to carry around.

My coyote rifles have Remington Varmint/Sendero profiles. As has been said, they can do double duty as a match rifle. In that stock, I would bet a lighter barrel is going to be rear heavy if you care about balance.

I have a TL3 in an Exodus that I play musical barrels with. It will balance right in front of the mag well with a 26" Remington varmint contour. It needs a 26" MTU to balance well for match shooting and a Proof competition contour is a little better.

My guess is the revelation will balance with a little lighter barrel, but you are also using a shorter barrel.

If balance is a non issue, I would go with something light.
