When I ordered my 1st set of scope rings, I had done all the measurements off an existing scope rail I had on another rifle. Now after replacing the original scope rail with a new Nightforce rail, both being 20 MOA. I ended up with my scope sitting higher then I wanted. I reordered a set of rings that are .150" lower then my original set. After installing the ring set and torquing things, I headed to the range to rezero with the lower ring set. I found that I had to increase the elevation to rezero, which is the opposite of what I had anticipated. I'm trying to set up my scope so I will be able me to dial in the elevation out to 1000 yards.

Re: Change of Ring Height

Caliber? Ammo load? MV? How much elevation til you max out with current set up?

If you're the typical 308 shooter pushing 175 SMK at 2650fps, you will need about 10.2-10.6 mil or 35-36 MOA to reach 1000 yards based on elevation, temp, etc.

Your signature block says "I buy 6.5 Creedmoor brass" ... if you're pushing 140 SMK about 2850 fps, you only need about 8.5 mil or 29 MOA to reach 1000 yards
