Change to AICS stocks?

Whats with the thing sticking out of the forend of the new AICS stocks? I'm getting ready to purchase one and was wondering what it is? Any chance it takes ATLAS bipods without having to have the AICS adaptor?

Awesome thanks. Saw the pic of that one mount that seems to be an AI brand mount. It leaves the other side open. Any idea if another mount is available for the other side for IR illuminators and such?
