Ok here is a question some might think is dumb but here it goes. I have a 20 in 7.62 X 39 ar barrel and am wondering if i could get it cut down to a 16in barrel and rechambered to a 300 aac. It is just sitting there and I have been wanting a 300 whisper or fireball or aac for some time. So any ideas or advice on who might be able to do it or what not. Any help would be appreciated.

The .311 bullet dia. vs the .308 may reduce your accuracy depending on the bore size of the barrel. But honestly not knowing much about the AAC round thats all I can think of.

It is basically .300 whisper, which means the case diameter is going to be smaller than the case diameter of 7.62x39.

The biggest problem will be the new gas tube hole and closing up the old one.
Unscrewing the barrel extension, shortening the 1/2" or whatever is necessary and rechambering/rethreading should present a competent machinist any problem.
