Hey guys, sorry to sound a little noobie but this is my first time fiddling with higher moa bases etc on precision rifles. I'm going to be changing the glass on my Remington 700 AAC and i'm looking to upgrade from my Bushnell 3200 to a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 30m tube. I'm going to be mounting to a Seekins 20moa one-piece base, i was wondering what rings would you recommend?

I'm liking how beefy the Burris extreme rings are and they're within my price range (looking to spend $150-180 for base and rings). Now since the mount will be higher, could i get away with medium mounts or should i stick with high mounts? Should i consider different rings?

All input is appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Well, with a 20MOA mount- you'll have slightly less clearance for the bell than 0 MOA mounts. (typically- the back is higher, the front is same height- so that will create slightly less clearance at the scope bell.) However, all the imformation you should need on ring height is here.

Medium rings should be fine.

Seems rather high- are you saying from bottom of ring to base- or is that measurement bottom of ring to bottom of the base?

Ok- I retract my statement about that number being high. I thought you were making that measurement from bottom of ring to base to mount- not center of scope to mount.

Of course Burris doesn't measure XTRs that way. They're top of base to bottom of ring. So for a 30mm you'll have to add .59".

I have a Weaver Tactical Extended Multi-Slot 20MOA bases, and with my Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 FFP scope Burris XTR lows work wonderfully. Any higher and I think I'd need an adjustable cheekpiece.

With the Bushnell 4200 3-12x44 FFP, with same Weaver 20MOA base and XTR low rings, the marginally shorter tube with such a long base allows ample clearance of the objective from the barrel but there's only maybe 1/8" clearance between the base and scope bell in front and the mag ring in the rear.

I'd rather trim the front of the base that extends past the recoil lug to improve clearance than use higher rings, but that's just me.
