I just got a older 4-16x56 Millett(has the capped turrets) for my 10/22 and I just realized it has a spot of maybe (brown)grease/oil under the lense, and a lighter tan chunk of something.

You can see through the scope fine, the spot is to the side but visible. Has anyone else ever seen something like this happen, or have any ideas.

Doesn't have any rattle if you shake it and everything seems to work fine.

I know it's cheap glass, but it's my budget build I hurt people's feelings with. Has an old 4x fixed from sears thats 30-40yo on it now.

Sounds like a feature for said budget build to hurt peoples’ feelings even worse with, when you have them look through the scope and see the smudge, then turn back to their Nightforce and cry about how badly they failed their equipment.

If it’s oil or grease, nothing you can do about it from the outside. I doubt it’s worth sending a cheap scope back for Millet to try to fix - haven’t heard many positives on their customer service - but that may be worth a try.

I assume you’ve used a lens cloth to make sure the stuff isn’t on the outside?

I had a Millet TRS-1 once. Adjusting the turrets on it felt like grinding pepper. I sent it back and they sent me a new one which I sold NIB. There are much better options in the 2-300 range IMO. Back then Bushnell covered the warranty for Millet.

It’s definitely on the inside. Don’t get me wrong spending money isn’t bad, but I accidentally built a tack driver for $220(won the base rifle) and I think it’s funny to shoot as good as my buddies Kidd. It’ll shoot a group you can cover with a dime at 50 no issue(not far but bulk with bulk ammo ain’t bad), and I shoot empty 12g hulls at 100. used a shit scope so long I kind of hate to put anything really good on it now, but any scope is an upgrade also.

I’ve never even touched a Millett till now, don’t remember seeing the junk when I picked it up, but also didn’t drop it or anything on the way home.

I’ll post a pic of a decent group In a bit it’s on a shoot-n-see patch for size reference.

This was 60 used, hard to pass on it.

Didn’t notice the crud at first though.

Just goes to show that the Indian is far more important to accuracy than the arrow (although a good arrow can make a decent Indian look pretty good lol)

If I remember correctly this was 8-10 rounds.
