Cheap practice ammo

Re: Cheap practice ammo

I have some Fed 711B that I tested and I like it. I really don't spend money on the high dollar stuff, perferring instead to buy what is considered by most .22 shooters "practice ammo" - but I'm happy with the results I get from it,,, the likes of Eley Sport, Aguila Golden Eagle Target, Aguila Super Extra. I'd give the 711B a thumbs up. Good ammo!

My guns don't miss a beat with the Federal

Re: Cheap practice ammo

I'm still shooting Winchester dynapoints in my rifle with very good results. Not sure if they even still sell them but thanks for the next one that I need to check out. What is the cost of them at most places.

Re: Cheap practice ammo

FYI,

Federal Auto-Match (PN:AM22) and Federal Gold Medal Match (PN:719) are the same cartridge.
Difference being that the AM22 is bulk pack and presumable doesn't have the same level of QA done during production.

For training ammunition, I have yet to find a better option than the AM22.
It can be found at Walmart for ~ $15 per box of 325.
I'm at 12 ft above sea level and as long as it is not freezing out, they stay sub-sonic when shot out of a 16" barreled 10/22.
Rarely have any failures to fire, and accuracy averages 1 MOA @ 100 yards.

I do see better accuracy with CCI Green Tag, Lapua, or Eley, but they are all over 6 times the price.
For training purposes, the AM22 is a much better choice for me.
YMMV

Re: Cheap practice ammo

I shoot the Federal bulk stuff from walmart I get about 1"-1.5" 10 shot groups at 50 with it out of my 10/22 I'm sure there is better stuff but for me 550 rounds for 13.00 I just can't pass that up for trigger time.

Re: Cheap practice ammo

Winchester Power Points have always been some the most accurate .22 out of a variety of rifles. Price has gone up since I last bought a case but they are available reasonably. Why practice with something different than you are going to use...

I like the Wolf but it seems to be a little pricey for not that much gain over the Federal. Not worth it for plinking.

Re: Cheap practice ammo

I would add the Winchester Dyna Points as well as the bulk 333 and 555 Winchester ammo. Only problem is since Bam Bam got the Head job in DC no one arround here can seem to get them any more. I do read about others in the rest of the country having them so do try them. I liked them allot when I could buy them. Same with CCI sub sonics. Very accurate if you can find them. The blue box 500 round bricks of Federal is also a good choise in some rifles. But it's a 50/50 with my guns. They either love it of hate it.

Re: Cheap practice ammo

RWS target rocks theres afew sites where it can be had less the $5 a box though you ought to consider buying more than 500rds to make the shipping cost worthwhile.
CCI 0035/0032 is good stuff too and can be had for less the $2.25 for 50rds.
